Abstract. Eggplant ‘Solara F1’ cultivar was grown in organic substrates: raised peat or a mixture of pine bark with low-moor peat in v:v = 1:1, used for the first, second and third time in the successive years. Substrate type had an effect on the macrocomponent content in the index parts of plants (leaves from the central part of plant) and in fruits. Higher contents of N, P and Ca were found in leaves than in fruits of eggplant.

Key words: eggplant, macronutrients content, index part, fruits, organic substrate, re-used substrate

Summary

Vegetation experiment with eggplant ‘Solara F1’ cultivar grown in an unheated greenhouse was carried out from May till August 2004.

Plants were grown in pots of 6 dm3 volume in two types of media: raised peat, or a mixture of pine bark and low-moor peat v:v 1:1. The applied media were used either in fresh state (used for the first time); re-used in the second year (after use in the first year, they were preserved for repeated use in the following year); and substrates used for the third time (used in the two preceding seasons in 2002 and 2003).

Macro- and micro-components were applied to the determined levels before vegetation, before seedlings plantation, and supplemented by top dresing with N, P, K in the proportion of N:P:K = 1:0.9:1.7.

Substrate type had an effect on the content of macrocomponents in the fruits, but no significant differences were recorded in the macrocomponent content in leaves and fruits of eggplants grown in the re-used substrate.
